Reflection and Renewal.

reflection and renewal

Seems to be the thing to do at the end of year and the beginning of the next.  The beginning of this year is “special” because it marks the beginning of a new decade, as well.  As far as I can tell, 2010 was not anyone’s best year…or anywhere close.  There was a lot of struggle in 2010.  We are all looking forward to an amazing decade of hope, new beginnings and possibilities…peace.

As I was walking my fury faithful companion, Nancy, one morning, I was inspired by this image that caught my eye.  I stopped, pondered and then captured it on my iphone, as I can’t seem to do much of anything, let alone walk my dog, without taking my phone!  The image got me thinking.

I thought it could be a metaphor for life.

The image is of the curb of my street with the reflection of a tree (life) in it with a life source, water as the foundation for the image. The curb splits the image in two, half with the tree and half with just the cement. Where there is water, there is life. This image motivates me to look and seek that which is possible and to nurture my life source. The water allows the tree in the sky to be seen when sometimes all you might see is the curb. Find your center, your life source, your chi, whatever you call it and nurture it. That balance or center, provides a great foundation for wonderful things to manifest, like the image of the tree with the sky. As the year moves on and we get caught up in our routines, remember this image and the possibility…

Reflect and renew again and again, as often as you need to, because  life becomes what you believe it will be.  A wise man once told me (thanks dad): Believe you can, Believe you can’t.  Either way, you are right.

I do no post production on my images. This is as I captured it.

New Year’s Resolution: Incorporate more creativity in 2011.

January 1, 2011
IMG 5771 200x300 New Years Resolution: Incorporate more creativity in 2011.

lights

This image was captured by accident.  Some of my best images have happened by taking a risk and pushing my creative boundaries.  This picture is actually of Christmas lights taken without a flash while I was shooting from the passenger seat of a moving car.  I bet that is exactly what you would have guessed, huh?  How many of you would have even tried to take a picture from a moving car knowing that “it just wouldn’t come out”? I almost thought the same way. I didn’t know what I would end up with, but I was willing to take a risk and give it a try.

We are at the beginning of the year, a time for renewal and resolutions and new  beginnings.  I have one resolution: to be more creative.

I resolve to incorporate more creativity in my life in 2011.  Creativity involves taking risks. I captured this image because I thought outside the box and took a risk with my camera. What was the cost if it didn’t work out? A little bit of space on my digital card? After all, I do have a delete button if I don’t like it!  Why not take the risk.  This particular one worked out for me with a very cool shot.

This blog will be about creativity. The great thing about creativity is that is not one definition for it.  So I will use this quote to sum it up: “The world is but a canvas to the imagination.”  — Henry David Thoreau

I have a knack for looking at the same thing as everyone else, but seeing something different.  It is this that I capture with my lens and it is this that I will share with you. This blog will be another one of my “canvas’s” to share the world as I see and capture.  It will feature a photo or video with some words, story or philosophy written around it.  I invite to you read, ponder and hopefully it might just spark some of your creativity. If it is able to do that, it will be considered a success.

As well, all the images I use will be available for sale.  They can be licensed or  printed on many different things, from canvas to metal or cups and pillow cases to skate boards. Peruse the gallery whenever you like. New images will be uploaded on a regular basis.  Read regularly. Comment often. I invite you to push your creative boundaries this year.  May 2011 be the best year yet!

Cheers and Happy New Year,

Sloan
